Your presentation slides can be amazingly better with just minor changes to the way you create them. We have always been constrained by bullet style templates that came with the software we use. If we just think out of the box and move away from the bullet style, we can create slides that are much more interesting and amazingly sticky. Here is a couple of slides extracted from a presentation to show you the before and after effects of Amazing Sticky Presentations.

Without much efforts, it is easy to pen your thoughts as an outline on bullet style templates, in particular PowerPoint templates. This tend to be the culprit for all the boring slides we see in our everyday presentations. Time is also another excuse for creating boring slides. Very often we delay our preparations till the very last minute and we only have enough time to create bulleted slides.

It is however not advisable to add decorations to your slides for the sake of beautifying them, but giving some thoughts on how the slides should be designed is a good start. Making your slides interesting, do require some time and efforts. You will need to simplify your messages and only put key messages on slides. You need time to look for images to illustrate your key points.

In contrast, the following slides are more interesting and easier to understand. The cluttered in the previous were very much reduced and only key messages were included. Appropriate images were added to represent much of the text in the previous.

More slides were also added to ensure legibility and focus.

When presenting chart related data, only key figures were emphasised. Related images were also included to make the data more interesting and ensure to stickiness.

For a final touch, consider subtle slide transition. There are many fancy transitions included in PowerPoint and Keynote, but use them sparingly. Transition must not be a distraction to your presentation. Select one that is subtle and enhances your presentation.  I have included a video at the bottom of this article to demonstrate the transitions that were applied to these slides.

In conclusion here are a few pointers for creating an amazing sticky presentation.

• As far as possible stay away from bullet styles.
• Keep your messages short and sweet.
• Include only key messages in your slides.
• Use extra slides when necessary.
• Use images to represent text.
• Use transitions with caution.
